Water Damage Repair in Amsterdam

Coffee on your MacBook or phone in the canal? Liquid residue can cause progressive corrosion. Bring the device in for assessment, cleaning and, where appropriate, component-level repair in our Amsterdam-West workshop.

Spilled something? Do this first

  • Switch the device off immediately and keep it off, current through a wet board can cause additional short circuits.
  • Unplug the charger and don't charge it again. Charging a wet device can short the board in seconds.
  • Skip the rice. It does not reliably remove liquid or residue from inside the device, while corrosion may continue.
  • Do not use a hairdryer, oven or radiator; heat can move liquid and damage components.
  • If liquid is dripping out, keep the openings facing down so it drains away from the board.
  • Bring it in as soon as you can. Earlier inspection can limit additional corrosion, but the outcome still depends on the damage already present.

Why a wet device needs more than drying out

Current flowing through wet circuits can cause shorts, and residue left by the liquid can continue to corrode the board after the outside feels dry. A device that works after drying may therefore still have hidden damage. We open the device, assess how far the liquid travelled, remove residue with an appropriate cleaning method and determine whether component-level repair is possible.

How we treat water damage

From diagnosis to tested device, every step agreed with you before we start

1

Diagnosis

We open the device, assess how far the liquid travelled and explain what the inspection shows before repair work begins.

2

Ultrasonic cleaning

Where appropriate, the board goes into an ultrasonic bath with specialised fluid to remove liquid residue and limit further corrosion.

3

Board-level repair

Where diagnosis shows that it is viable, shorted or corroded components are repaired or replaced under the microscope.

4

Test & return

We test the functions relevant to the repair before pickup and explain the observed condition and any remaining risk.

Frequently asked questions

Does putting a wet phone in rice actually work?

Rice does not reliably remove liquid or conductive residue from inside a device. Even when the outside feels dry, residue on the board can continue to cause corrosion. Switch the device off, do not charge it and arrange an inspection rather than relying on rice.

My device survived the spill and still works. Should I still bring it in?

It is sensible to have it assessed. Corrosion can progress after the device appears to recover, and residue may later affect traces or components. Earlier inspection and appropriate cleaning may reduce further damage, but neither guarantees full recovery.

Does it matter what kind of liquid it was?

Yes. Liquids containing sugars, acids or salts can be more conductive or corrosive than clean water, and the amount and exposure time also matter. Tell us what was spilled when you bring the device in; it helps us choose the cleaning approach.

Can my data be saved after water damage?

That depends on how far the liquid travelled and whether the storage, board and encryption path remain usable. If repairing the device is not viable, a separately agreed data-recovery assessment may identify other options. We cannot promise a result before diagnosis.

How long does water damage repair take?

We schedule liquid-damage work according to urgency and workshop capacity. The timeline depends on the extent of the damage, the required cleaning or board work and part availability; we give you an estimate after diagnosis.

Is there a warranty on water damage repairs?

Any commercial warranty is limited to the workmanship and replacement part named on your invoice or warranty certificate, under the stated conditions. Liquid damage is less predictable than a standard repair and residual corrosion may surface later. We explain the observed board condition and the applicable cover after diagnosis.
