Cookies
This page lists every cookie and every storage entry this website can place on your device. Not the categories in the abstract: the actual names, what is in them, how long they last and who receives them. There are four entries in total, and before you answer the banner not one of them exists.
1. What this page is, and what it does not do
Article 24.1 of the General Terms and Conditions says that 4Fixing processes website-use data for its own business and legal purposes as described in its privacy notice. Article 24.2 says that the privacy notice and this cookie policy supplement those Terms but do not independently change the contractual scope or determine the parties' privacy roles. So if you read something here that appears to stretch or narrow your rights or our obligations under the General Terms and Conditions, that is not the intention and the Terms prevail. Who holds which role follows from the actual processing activity under Article 24.3.
Everything else about the personal data we process, including the data on a device you hand in for repair, is in our privacy policy. This page covers only what is read from or written to the device you are browsing with.
2. What we do not place
Cookie policies routinely list services that a site does not actually run. This one does not. As at the version date at the bottom of this page:
- No advertising technology of any kind. No advertising cookies, no conversion tags, no remarketing lists, no tracking pixels.
- Google Ads is not configured. Our Google Analytics property has no link to any Google Ads account, so no data about your visit reaches an advertising account.
- Google Tag Manager is not configured. The site can load a tag manager if one is ever set up, but no container ID is present, so nothing of the kind loads today.
- No social media pixels. The WhatsApp button is an ordinary link, not embedded code from Meta.
- No fonts, scripts or images from an external network. Everything a page needs in order to load and work comes from our own domain, so no third party sees your visit simply because a page opened. The only things ever fetched from elsewhere are the two optional ones in chapter 3, and only once you have allowed them.
- No advertising category in the cookie banner. We removed it, because a consent option for a technology that does not exist collects an answer that means nothing. If advertising is ever added, the category returns and the version number of this policy changes, which asks everyone again.
We also set no cookies from our own server. Nothing arrives with the page itself, and no server response asks your browser to store anything.
3. What we place, in full
Four entries, listed one by one with the same ten attributes each.
3.1 Your cookie choice
- Name: 4fixing-com-cookie-consent
- Technology: local storage, not a cookie. It is never sent with a request, unlike a cookie.
- Provider: 4Fixing
- Purpose: carrying out the choice you made, not asking you again on every page, and being able to provide verifiable evidence of a positive choice.
- Category: necessary
- Data stored: which categories you allowed or refused, the moment you answered, the moment the answer expires, the version number of this policy, the version and language of the banner, which control you used to answer, a random proof number after consent, and the choice this one replaced, if there was one.
- Lifetime: twelve months, or shorter if you clear your browser storage or the version number of this policy changes. See chapter 5.
- First or third party: first party, 4fixing.nl
- Recipients: the local entry stays in your browser. If you consent, or later change or withdraw that consent, a minimal copy goes to 4Fixing through our server at Netsons. We do not send an initial refusal.
- Transfers outside the EEA: none.
This one entry is the reason the necessary category exists. It is strictly necessary in the literal sense: without it we cannot remember that you said no, and the only alternative would be asking you on every page.
3.2 Google Analytics, visitor identifier
- Name: _ga
- Technology: cookie
- Provider: Google, through the Google Analytics 4 measurement code
- Purpose: telling one browser apart from another, so that ten visits from one person are not counted as ten people.
- Category: analytics, placed only after you allow it
- Data stored: a randomly generated number and the moment it was generated. No name, no email address, nothing you typed into a form.
- Lifetime: twelve months, counted from your most recent visit. We set this ourselves instead of using Google's two-year default.
- First or third party: first party. The cookie sits on 4fixing.nl, although the code that writes it comes from Google.
- Recipients: Google. The measurement data is kept by Google for 14 months, restarting on new activity from the same visitor.
- Transfers outside the EEA: possible. Google may process this data outside the European Economic Area under the safeguards it describes in its own terms. The Google Ads Data Processing Terms have applied to our Analytics account since 15 August 2018. For part of the data Google acts as an independent controller rather than as a processor for us, which chapter 6 of our privacy policy sets out in full.
3.3 Google Analytics, session state
- Name: _ga_CBMG46J22E
- Technology: cookie
- Provider: Google, through the Google Analytics 4 measurement code
- Purpose: keeping track of the current visit, so that pages viewed one after another count as one session instead of several.
- Category: analytics, placed only after you allow it
- Data stored: a session number, a counter and timestamps for the current visit. The part after _ga_ is our own measurement ID without its G- prefix. It identifies our property, not you.
- Lifetime: twelve months from your most recent visit, set by us as described above.
- First or third party: first party, 4fixing.nl
- Recipients: Google, as above.
- Transfers outside the EEA: as above.
What Google measures for us goes further than pages and time on the page. It also records scrolling, clicks that lead away from the site, searches within the site, video engagement, file downloads and interactions with forms, and Google collects location metadata at city level and detailed device data alongside it. That is the same list as in paragraph 4.19 of the privacy policy, and it is the reason the analytics category is a real choice rather than a formality. Our Analytics account has Google Signals switched off, so your visit is not linked to a Google account.
3.4 Google Maps
- Name: cookies and similar identifiers placed by Google in the google.com domain. We cannot list them by name, because they are not in our domain and our code cannot read them. Google documents them in its own cookie information.
- Technology: cookies and comparable browser storage, inside an embedded frame served by Google.
- Provider: Google
- Purpose: displaying the map of our workshop on the home page and the contact page.
- Category: external content, loaded only after you allow it
- Data stored: determined by Google. At the moment the map loads Google also receives your IP address and your browser data.
- Lifetime: determined by Google.
- First or third party: third party, google.com
- Recipients: Google.
- Transfers outside the EEA: possible, under the safeguards Google describes in its own terms.
Until you allow external content, the map is an empty panel with a button, no request goes to Google and none of the above exists. The frame we then load is set to send no referrer, so Google does not learn which page of our site you were reading when the map appeared.
4. The categories in the banner
4.1 Necessary
Always active, and it covers exactly one thing: the record of your cookie choice in paragraph 3.1. Nothing else on this site needs storage to work. The contact form uses no cookie and no local storage, it simply sends what you typed when you press the button, and the protection against automated abuse of that form runs on our server without storing anything on your device.
4.2 Analytics
Off unless you switch it on. With it off, the Google measurement code is not loaded at all. Not loaded and inactive, but never fetched, so there is no request to googletagmanager.com or google-analytics.com and no cookie to delete. Switching it off later does two things immediately: we tell the measurement code to stop, and we delete the two cookies in paragraphs 3.2 and 3.3 from your browser.
4.3 External content
Off unless you switch it on, and it applies to the Google Maps map on the home page and the contact page. You can also allow it from the map itself without opening the banner, using the button in the empty panel. Doing that allows external content only, and leaves analytics off. It also counts as your answer for the other categories, which stay off, so the banner will not come back on its own afterwards. The Cookie settings link still changes everything at any time.
4.4 Why there is no marketing category
There used to be one, and it promised Google Ads measurement and advertising functionality. No such technology was ever present on this site, so the option collected consent for something that could not happen. It has been removed rather than reworded. The advertising signals we send to Google are now permanently set to refused, in every situation, for every visitor.
5. How long your choice lasts
Your answer is valid for twelve months. After that we ask again. This applies to a refusal exactly as it applies to consent, and while an expired answer is waiting to be renewed the site behaves as though you had refused: nothing optional loads.
The twelve months apply to your choice and to the Analytics cookies in your browser. This is not the retention period for measurements already collected lawfully: after your choice expires or is withdrawn, that data may remain at Google for the 14-month retention period in paragraph 3.2. No new measurements are collected after that point.
Your answer also lapses when the version number of this policy changes for a substantive reason, such as a new storage entry, a different purpose, a different recipient or a longer lifetime. Then the banner returns and asks again, because consent is only valid if it was informed and the description you saw is no longer the description that applies. A correction to the wording that leaves the substance untouched does not have that effect.
6. Changing or withdrawing your choice
The Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page reopens the panel, at any time, with no explanation needed. Withdrawing is meant to be as easy as giving, so it is the same link, the same panel and the same two clicks.
Withdrawal works forwards. It does not make the measurement that already happened unlawful, but it does end it: the measurement code stops sending immediately, its cookies are deleted from your browser at once, and from your next page view the code is not loaded at all. If you also want what Google already holds to be removed, chapter 10 of the privacy policy explains how to ask us, and we pass the request on.
The withdrawal is also recorded in the evidence register. If that registration temporarily fails, withdrawal still takes effect immediately and the browser tries to send the record again later.
7. How we can show that you consented
We are required to be able to demonstrate consent, and since Google Analytics really does run here after permission, that requirement really does apply. This is how we meet it, and where the limits of it are.
When you consent we create a random proof number. The register contains that number, the categories you chose, our server time, the version of this policy and of the banner shown, and its language and the control you used. Later changes and withdrawals use the same proof number, so their order remains verifiable. We also keep an immutable description of each banner version.
The evidence contains no name, email address, IP address, user agent or form data. It is held in a protected directory outside the website's public reach, on Netsons hosting in Italy. An initial refusal stays only in your browser: without consent there is no positive choice that we need to prove centrally. After consent, we do record a later change or withdrawal.
A new permission enables an optional service only after the server confirms the record. If the register is unavailable, anything not previously allowed stays off. Withdrawal works immediately, even if its record has to be sent later. We remove the evidence chain 14 months after consent expires or is withdrawn. If it remains active for the full twelve months, that is at most approximately 26 months after the latest positive choice. After deletion, a copy may remain in the hosting provider's rolling backup for up to 31 days.
8. Google Maps and links that leave this site
The map is blocked until you allow external content, and the frame is set to send no referrer, so Google is told nothing about which page you came from.
The WhatsApp button is an ordinary link. There is no Meta code on our pages, nothing is requested from Meta while you are on this site, and nothing goes to Meta unless you click it yourself. From that click onwards you are in a service run by a third party, under that party's own terms and its own privacy notice, not ours. The same applies to the browser help links in chapter 9 and to the link to the Dutch supervisory authority. We do not preload any of them.
9. Managing cookies in your browser
Your browser can block or delete cookies independently of the choice you made here. Blocking everything can break other websites. Note that the record of your choice is held in local storage and not in a cookie, so deleting cookies alone leaves it in place, while clearing this site's stored data removes it and the banner appears again.
10. Changes to this cookie policy
We update this page when what we place changes. The bottom of the page states which version you are reading and from when it applies. On a substantive change we raise the version number, which withdraws the answers already given and asks again, as chapter 5 describes. This policy carries its own version number, separate from that of the privacy policy and separate again from that of the General Terms and Conditions, because it supplements those Terms without changing their contractual scope (Article 24.2). Publishing a new version of this page therefore does not amend your Agreement (Article 32.4).
